Day 31, My Watch at 11:59:59pm

So, once again, the picture that I was trying to take didn't work out. I was sitting at my desk sulking just watching the seconds tick by... then light-bulb! But I only had one shot to get the shot at exactly 11:59:59, because everyone knows you can't stop time .

Goodbye snowy, gray, cold January!

Day 30, Scrabble

Love playing scrabble. Usually I lose but lately I've been on a winning streak!!

Day 29, Mason and Dakota

So I totally dropped the photo ball today. I had planned on taking a picture of the full moon (which, as it turns out, is tomorrow anyways), but we had family and friends come over and since we were having such a good time I totally missed my opportunity. However I did manage to take a few candid pics. I liked this one because my reflection is in the window. Gotta love reflections!

Day 28, Laser Pointer

The light from a laser pointer is pretty intense when someone points it in your eye. So when Jeremy unearthed our old laser pointer(which purpose is only to entertain our cats) I wanted to see what our eye sees when someone 'accidentally' points it in your eye.

Taken in my living room literally seconds before midnight.

Day 26, Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Yummy! My baking confidence is back.

Taken in the kitchen, obviously, and using only light from the oven.

Monday, January 25

Day 25, Afternoon Tea

After a ridiculous amount of time trying in vain to capture the steam from the tea kettle, while listening to the insanely annoying whistle, I accepted defeat and applied some Photoshop trickery.

Taken in my kitchen, while wearing earplugs and trying to remember to keep my big-headed reflection out of the shot.

Sunday, January 24

Day 24, Raindrops

Gloomy, winter rain. Nothing else to say.

Taken looking out my bedroom window.

Saturday, January 23

Day 23, Fan Lights

I hit a real mind block today. The photos that I wanted to do were either not going to work or they simply took to much set up and I'm still tired from being sick the last couple of days. So this is what I came up with. It's not a terribly exciting photo but it does satisfy my photo-of-the-day need.

Taken looking up at my kitchen ceiling fan with a star filter.

Friday, January 22

Day 22, Fire Breathing

First of all, do NOT try this at home! That being said this isn't particularly dangerous and Jeremy is pretty comfortable with the fire. But I would not have been terribly disappointed if he singed his beloved musty-stache. ☺

Taken at home. We only tried this about three times because it still scares me.

Thursday, January 21

Day 21, Strawberry Halls

My Cough Drop Haiku:
My only relief,
of the burn, and cough, and ick.
I hate being sick!

This photo was incredibly easy to take (it had to be so I could get back to napping). I took a letter size piece of photo paper curled up the back, taped it to the wall letting half the paper sit on the desk. Then I haphazardly dropped some cough drops and bounced my flash off the ceiling, voila!

Day 20, Working Hands

This photo is not exactly the result I was hoping for when I thought of this. Oh well.  I'm sure that in the next 345 days I will be able to reattempt/improve this shot or something similar.

Taken in my office using my handy-dandy desk lamp and a slow shutter speed.

Tuesday, January 19

Day 19, The Dancers

Wow. Today was pretty busy,  I almost didn't make my picture for the day. These are the dancers from Day 11.

Taken in my bedroom using a pillow case as a background and some minor Photoshop trickery.

Monday, January 18

Day 18, Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

Many moons ago I made oatmeal cookies, i.e., inedible hockey pucks that vaguely resembled oatmeal cookies. Due to that incredible failure I never made oatmeal cookies again...until today. The results are both edible AND tasty!!!

Taken in my kitchen with an umbrella light.

Sunday, January 17

Day 17, Foggy Sunday Drive

Today isn't the only thing that's incredibly foggy. My brain is pretty foggy too.

Taken while driving west on Route 82 in Columbia Station.

Saturday, January 16

Day 16, Hand-Feed a Chickadee

Today we went to hand-feed chickadees at the Brecksville Nature Center. It was cute. If you would like to hand-feed chickadees yourself, be at the nature center between 10am to noon on a Saturday or Sunday until February 28th. Then you can hand-feed chickadees! It's fun to say hand-feed chickadees.

Day 16 Bonus Pic!

Because it takes more than 30 seconds to hand-feed a chickadee Jeremy gave up almost instantly and made, and fed, his own snow-chickadee.

Day 15, Bird

"God gives every bird it's food, but he doesn't throw it into it's nest." ~ J.G. Holland

Taken while hanging out of my upstairs bedroom window. Don't worry, the melting snow drift would have broke my fall.

Thursday, January 14

Day 14, Crayons

"It is the eye of ignorance that assigns a fixed and unchangeable color to every object; beware of this stumbling block." ~Paul Gauguin

Taken in my homemade lightbox, which I sadly broke in the process and need to construct another.

Wednesday, January 13

Day 13, Winter Branches

Today's beautiful blue skys reminded me that the first day of spring is roughly 65 days away!

From my backyard.

Tuesday, January 12

Day 12, Seashell

It has been very cold for a few weeks now. I miss summer. I miss the beach. I miss searching for seashells.

Taken in my homemade light light box.

Monday, January 11

Day 11, Dance

This is my second attempt with light painting, and it was sooo much fun! And this is my favorite TJ Maxx purchase, for less than $10!

The photo was made in my bedroom and was a little bit of a hillbilly set-up, yee-haw. I placed my camera inside a cowboy hat on my bed, I know it sounds weird but it is perfect for holding the camera on the bed. Then I positioned the dancing sculpture on a piece of white paper to help bounce light up and adjusted the comforter to hide the paper. After that I wrote dance in the air with the flash light(I didn't bother trying to write it backwards, just flipped it later in Photoshop) and shined the light straight down on the sculpture for a few seconds.

ISO 200, f/16.0, 20s

Day 10, The Sleeping Faun

This is my second favorite piece at the Cleveland Museum of Art, with my husband in background getting in touch with his artistic side. My favorite is Portrait of the Ladies Amabel and Mary Jemima Yorke, which is so much better in person. I also love Portrait of Catherine Grey, Lady MannersDefinitely worth the free admission!

Note to self: Spontaneous trips to the Cleveland Museum of Art on a Sunday afternoon are much more enjoyable when you are not wearing super cute, uncomfortable heals. Remember to put an emergency pair of comfy flats in the trunk for such occasions!

Saturday, January 9

Day 9, Light Painting #1

This is my first attempt with light painting. I've always been interested in this form of photography and I definitely plan on attempting more involved light painting photos over the course of this year.

This photo was created in my bedroom. I covered a small flash light with tissue paper and tied it to the ceiling fan and gave it a whirl. The camera was resting on the floor pointing upwards, with an ISO of 100, f/5.0, and a shutter speed of 15 seconds.

Friday, January 8

Day 8, Sadie

After making fun of Sadie's coordination yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to show that she really is a pretty dog.

Taken in the warmth and comfort of my living room bouncing a flash off the ceiling.

Thursday, January 7

Day 7, Dog Chow

Today I was challenged to take a photo of dog food. What do you think?

This photo was taken from the top of my home-made light box.

Day 7 Bonus Pics!

Here is our dog Sadie trying to catch the dog food Jeremy was tossing. She has absolutley no coordination.

Wednesday, January 6

Day 6, Snowy Haze

A calm, cold, snowy day in the neighborhood.

Taken in my backyard.

Tuesday, January 5

Day 5, Ducks

Ducks of a feather brave the cold together.

Taken in Cascade Park in Elyria, Ohio.

Monday, January 4

Day 4, Guitar

I may not be able to play the guitar but I can still play with the guitar. ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪

Taken in my bedroom using my comforter as a backdrop and bouncing flash off the ceiling.

Sunday, January 3

Day 3, Bowl of Chili

When the weather is below freezing a bowl of hot and spicy chili is the best!

Taken in my kitchen using available light from a window and a flash bounced off the ceiling.

Saturday, January 2

Day 2, Dakota in the Snow

Dakota getting ready to catch some falling snow.

Taken in my backyard.

Day 1, January 1st

An appropriate way to start the photo project.

Taken in my office with Canon Rebel xTi, 28-135mm IS lens, with one light source, my office desk lamp.

My 365 Photo Project

I'm starting this 365 photo project to help me focus on different forms of photography that I have either put off experimenting with for fear of failure or lack of motivation. And this will force me to reattempt the photos that I did try and they turned out to be epic failures.

A thought-out, somewhat artistic photo a day for year is going to be a large undertaking in an already busy life but I'm going to give this project my all.

Here I go...
